Welcome to Zweigle Aviation
As long as I can remember aviation has always been a staple in my life. Zweigle Aviation was originally owned by my dad, David, A small A&P shop occupying the FBO at Reedley Municipal airport from the early 90’s to around 2001. My dad was let go by the airlines after the mass lay-off’s due to 9/11. I, Wesley was born in late 1997. Surrounded by aviation, you could say it's in my blood. I was put at the controls of our small Beechcraft/Cessna fleet frequently by my dad from 3 years old on. Around 2003 my dad and a couple of his long-time friends formed a partnership owning and operating an Aero-Vodochody L-29 Delfin. This added all sorts of excitement to my aviation adventure growing up, jet noise, “fast mover”, hot exhaust coming from the back of an airplane, and not just the typical spinning fan on the front, “got it.” By 2002 we moved to Tehachapi, CA, where my dad had taken the position as airport manager for KTSP. By 2006 and 8 years old he had me flying left seat of our Beech Sport 150 (musketeer), making my own radio calls, night flying, mountain flying, you name it. This quickly evolved to multi-engine and instrument time in our Beechcraft D-95a Travel Air, a doyn- converted, twin Lycoming IO-540’s mated with hartzell 3-blades, absolute rocket ship. In the fall of 2008 I attended my first Reno Air Races with my dad, this is where my love for fast moving, low flying, and high horsepower was solidified. Also my first time seeing the Thunderbirds or Blue angels, can't remember… Being in 5th grade and telling your friends that your dad had a jet in his hangar and then showing them videos of the air races certainly was a cool thing to brag about. In the winter of 2009 my dad decided that the L-29 which had sat stagnant on the ramp of KTSP since 2005 was in dire need of restoration, the once humbling Czech Republic markings faded like any airplane would after a few years of desert mountain conditions. By June of 2009 the jet was flight ready, receiving a brand new paint job just a few days before July. The crisp body lines on a freshly painted gloss grey L-29 with black trim and markings are everything to drool over. The jet took its first flight in over 6 years and was happy to. My dad took her to the skies, an awesome spectacle seeing the sunset and his favorite toy the evening of July 3rd, couldn't replace that day. The morning of July 4th was like any other festive morning, our family migrated to the airport park, the Thunder Delfin jet team showed up, don't remember much from that day. Around 1:30PM while the jets were up, I heard an officer, who was also at the park festivities, responding to a call for an airplane crash. At that very moment 2 of 3 L-29s flew over the airport park and my dad was not part of them. Little did I know this would be the beginning of a very rocky, grueling, and expansive experience of becoming a human being. It was this day that I lost my dad, and it was also this day that I would promise myself to do everything I could to follow in his footsteps. By the end of highschool I was an amateur photographer and also a solo student pilot with 53 hours, I got irresponsible and spent all my money solo flying with no real objective other than “seat time” instead of actually moving forward with training, “don't do that- it's dumb.” Both of my beautiful children Ellie, and Dave were born in 2018 and 2019. I graduated California’s Electrical Apprenticeship program in 2023. Now striving for my final career in Aviation.
Rewind a little bit for what we're here for. In 2014 I volunteered at a local aircraft restoration shop, I spent the better part of 4 years every day after school going and working on airplanes, learning the fundamentals, insides, and outs of general aviation. Met a lot of cool people and flew in a lot of cool airplanes. This is where Zweigle Aviation 2.0 started, using my dad's old camera I started toting it around at the airport with me, taking pictures of anything that flew by the 11 end of Tehachapi Airport. Fire crews would use KTSP as a staging area, KCFD is based here, the military always sneaking around.. I started selling prints to local pilots of their airplanes, I really fell in love with just taking pictures. Unfortunately as time goes on and assets disappear, so do the once great opportunities and all the doors they bring with them. This brings me to my close. I don't do this for profit, and I certainly don't do it for status. My goal is to take any proceeds off these photos and invest them back into Zweigle Aviation in hopes of one day provide my kids with the same opportunities I once had and maybe even future generations beyond that. I intend to use this platform to inspire not only them but our entire youth! Thank you for reading and I hope to have your business, whatever it may be!
